Friends,

We are approaching the end of our first year as a club and I could not be more proud of what we’ve been able to do in a short period of time. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of the great families that help support my dream of a successful youth club and working with all of the really cool kids that choose to spend their free time with us on Sundays.
The last practice in Session 4 is at 3PM on Sunday, September 20th. Session 5 practices are set to begin on 10/18 @ 3PM, in the Chiles HS wrestling room. If you have not paid for your AAU card renewal and are active this session…you owe me! If you took care of your card on your own last year, please either renew it again or get with me to do it for you through the club.
I want to pay a special thanks to a few guys that have been instrumental in our success:
Coach James Marschka – Coach Marschka has been a great supporter and facilitator for the club, helping arrange our mixed array of practice locations and bringing great new talent to the mat. Though he lives a fair distance from the practice room, Coach rarely misses a workout, fills in when I need help and brings with him a young guy (Garrett) that sets a great example for what we are aiming for in the club. Thanks, Coach – I feel strongly that the work we’ve put in, with both our youth and the big buys (Chiles HS), will pay dividends going forward and continue to push the level of competition in the Tallahassee area. I think we are going to surprise some people this upcoming season. Thanks for you help, Coach. I look forward to watching some great Timberwolf victories this season.
Coach Alex Temples – Coach Alex jumped at the opportunity to help out with the club and has been an unfailing resource for fulfilling the needs of our wrestlers, their families and our practice facilities. I’ve relied on Alex much more than I intended to from the beginning; however, I’m finding that his unrelenting love for our sport and desire to help others learn it leaves a whole lot more capacity. I hope Alex and his brother Andrew continue to call our club home for years to come and, as well, continue to expand their role in influencing our youth to battle. Thanks for your help, Alex – I look forward to coaching many more matches with you over the coming years.
Bob Sutherland – Coach Bob brings both a spirited youngster in our friend Cole and a great understanding of youth wrestling from his previous role as a coach just a little north in Atlanta, GA. I appreciate Bob’s excitement and willingness to put time in where it is most difficult – the super little guys. Bob understands that lighting the fire in those little guys is the key to rise of a great competitive  effort in Tallahassee. If we can guide 4 and 5 year olds toward a love for our sport – we will be a force in the years to come. Thanks, Bob – I appreciate your efforts greatly.
Updates
I will be going back through and publishing my emails to the website and will try to keep the updates section of the site up to date. I’ve not done a great job of that so far….
September KAOS Date Night is 9/25 – take advantage of a few hours out while the kids get a fun workout. See the quote below from one of the club parents who provided some feedback for me:
Dale,

Jackson LOVES going – after the first night he and three of his friends asked if they could go back the next Friday.  Tyler, one of the owners and trainers, and Kendall, full-time nanny, run date night.  It’s from 6 – 9pm. $15 per child ($10 for additional siblings) and it includes dinner.  I asked Jackson what they do; below is the agenda according to Jackson:

  • Free time when they get there
  • Coach Tyler puts them through a workout (KAOS offers kids speed and agility classes during the week)
  • Games – dodge ball, kickball, etc….. while Ms. Kendall gets pizza
  • Eat pizza
  • Watch movie

When we pick kids up the lights are dim and they are watching a movie.  The kids can bring a pillow, bean bag or sleeping bag to watch the movie.

Check it out!!
If you see a cool story related to wrestling or impressive athletic accomplishment, please send it in and I’ll get it posted on the site.
Gear Update
Please consider this the last call to get in on the subsidized ($30 off) custom gear (thanks again to Ken Hall with ASP Pools). I plan to place the official order on 9/15 and orders will be taken through 9PM EST on 9/14.
You can purchase via the website or you can call me to manually walk through an order and pay by cash/check. My hope is that we could have a couple of guys in some TBWC custom gear in the upcoming events in South Tallahassee.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns regarding the custom gear.
Upcoming Youth Events
9/24/2015 – 6PM – Capital City Duals @ Florida High
10/8/2015 – 6PM – Capital City Duals @ Florida High
Please let me know if your athlete is interested in wrestling in either of these events. We must register ahead of time in order to line up matches with the other teams. You do not need to be a current TBWC member to participate; however, you must have a current AAU membership.
8/31/2015 – Wakulla Youth Tournament – AAU event open to all youth athletes. TBWC will be attending so please let me know if your wrestler plans to compete. I will provide transportation for up to 5 wrestlers and will have snacks and drinks on hand. Again, you must have a current AAU membership to participate.
Other TBWC events are under consideration and will be announced soon.
Shameless Plug – A New Wrestling Mat!
Coach Marschka and I have begun an effort to replace the wrestling mat in the Chiles wrestling room. As the primary place of practice, we (TBWC) consider this our home mat and will be putting forward club funds to help support this effort. Because a quality wrestling mat can run from $6,000 to $8,000 (and up), neither the Chiles HS team nor the TBWC club have the funds to complete the effort without outside assistance. Please consider joining us in improving the practice environment for our guys, either personally or through your businesses. Every little bit helps so please know that event he small amounts move us forward.
In addition, there are still a couple of high visibility logo placement options available where a $1,000 contribution will earn a permanent spot for your company logo in one corner of the mat. The new mat will be used in all Chiles HS and TBWC wrestling events and other, larger off-location, local wrestling events.
Make checks payable to Tallahassee Battle Wrestling Club  (or TBWC) and note that the amount is toward the new mat. All funds received will go directly toward the purchase of a new mat and not be used in any other manner.

Great practices these past few weeks – our guys are really learning how to battle and score points. The next two practices will be filled with live wrestling, point scoring focus and tough agility training.
In conclusion, I’ll be sending out a survey once this session wraps up to get some feedback on the way I’ve put things together this year and, perhaps, the ways I can improve the club and it’s operations going forward. When you see it, please take a few minutes to contribute – I pay close attention to what you have to say. If one of your requests is to reduce the length of my emails…sorry – I’m just not sure that’s going to happen.
Best,
Coach Dale
