Happy holidays, wrestling fans!
It’s been a while since I’ve put out an email of substance so I thought I would reach out with an update.
Session 5 Practice 8
Today we had an awesome workout. The guys battled hard and worked diligently to grasp the new series of scoring techniques I’ve challenged them with. I’m constantly impressed with the amount of information they are able to retain and put to use. For the remainder of this session, we’ll continue to work on that same series and work to perfect our latest attack on our feet – the “Hi-C.”
As I mentioned today at our practice, due to some personal scheduling conflicts, I will not be at the final two practices of this session. Since we don’t resume with session 6 until January 17th, I’ll no doubt be experiencing some withdrawal. I’ll have to rely on videos to get me through ’til then. In my absence, Coach Marshka, Coach Alex, Coach Bob, Coach Riley and our increasingly technical slew of very helpful dads will hold the final two practices of this session. Please take a moment and thank them for the extra time and effort they put forward to the club. I’ve made every effort to never cancel a practice because parents plan around them and pay good money for them so I want to respect those things and provide a consistency that gives busy parents something they can always rely on. That said, I could not do it without the help of the great group of guys behind me.
2016 – Promotion!
Up until now, I’ve relied on word of mouth and flyers to get the word out about the club. In my humble opinion, we’ve been wildly successful and have given the kids of Tallahassee an option they otherwise have not had. I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished and so honored to be the guy standing in the middle of the room doing my best to inspire kids to love the sport of wrestling in the same way I do.
I have decided to step up the marketing plan for 2016 and begin to increase the distribution of flyers to local schools, place road signs around town, resume informational emails about local activities and activities across the country for our youth to compete. In addition to those things, I’ll be engaging in some cross-promotional efforts with some similar but different athletic groups around town to give the young athletes the opportunity to expand their physical capabilities by participating in some complimentary physical activities.
I get consistent feedback from our gold medal winning jiu jitsu warrior, Cooper Hill and his family, that the combination of wrestling and his original sport of choice (jiu jitsu) have taken him several levels forward in a short period of time in both disciplines! If you are interested in working with the club in that way or you know of a group who may be interested in the same, please reach out to me to discuss.
I want to, again, thank our 2015 sponsors for helping offset some of the costs of our gear packages and help in the purchase of a new mat. As it turns out, our original mat was damaged in transit and the replacement is still in manufacturing. I will send out a picture once we get the full mat in house. You’ll also be able to see it at all Chiles Wrestling home meets.
2015 Sponsors:
– Ken Hall, ASP Pools: Call Ken at 229.798.0780 for all of your swimming pool maintenance needs. Thanks, Ken!
– Jay Hill, Hill Shivers Real Estate Capital Advisory: Contact Jay and the team at Hill Shivers for all of your Real Estate needs. We are also all excited to enjoy those Bojangles chicken and biscuits in February, 2016. Thanks Jay and team!
– Jim Mortinsen, MD: Thanks, “Morty,” for your continued support.
2016 will also include some group functions for the club. We have some great families and I think it would be a blast to get together and hang out when I’m not barking orders! If you have suggestions or ideas, please reach out.
Gear
Though the process took much longer than I anticipated, tomorrow will mark the completion of our first TBWC custom gear order as our battle shorts (mma shorts) will be delivered the me at the office at time time during the day. I finally learned this past week that my vendor had chosen to move to a different manufacturing facility in the middle of our order thus delaying production for a few weeks. We’ve gotten that behind us and have a guarantee that it was a one-time issue and won’t be the case for future orders.
I’m finding our resulting product to be of great quality and even cooler than it looked on my computer. I think the only changes I’ll make going forward is to make the coaches shirts better match the blue in all of the other products. If you have requests or suggestions, please feel free to reach out.
I purchased extra quantity in all items but only have a limited size selection, mostly youth sizes. All extra inventory is for sale at first come, first served and will be available at every practice, or by contacting me direct. You can inquire with Coach Marshka at the next practice if you would like to look through the inventory to see if there is something you like. I have only a couple of singlets left but have some shirts, both kinds of bags and will have a few sets of shorts available. The a la cart pricing list is as follows:
TBWC Nike Cinch Sack ………………………………..$33.00
TBWC Backpack w/ Drawstring …………………… $45.00
TBWC Nike Coach’s/Dad’s Polo ……………………$47.00
TBWC Singlet ……………………………………………….$45.00
TBWC Battle Shorts ……………………………………..$40.00
TBWC Sublimated Battle Tee Short Sleeve …$36.00
TBWC Sublimated Battle Tee Long Sleeve …$39.00
I also have 3 remaining Youth Medium TBWC performance practice shirts that can be purchased for $18 each.
I take cash, check and credit cards.
If you are unable to find your size but wish to purchase one or more pieces of our custom gear, please let me know. I intend to put in another group order, to include adult sizes in everything, before Christmas. The delivery time is now projected to be 3-4 weeks from when the order is placed.
Wrestling Season
We are now officially in the full swing of wrestling season. Please make note of the Chiles High School schedule and come out in support of our athletes. I love to see our little guys coming to the matches in support of the “big guys.” It’s great in that it gives the little guys something to look up to and, secondly, it gives them more opportunity to understand the flow of tournaments, matches and the officiating that goes along with the sport.
The Chiles guys were in South Walton this weekend and had a challenging but successful outing, gaining some valuable experience against some of the top talent in the state. We will see much of the same at the Capital City Classic coming up this coming Friday and Saturday @ Chiles High School.
I will be issuing VIP passes for regular season home matches for all current TBWC club members. Be on the lookout for those in your inbox soon.
I will continue to send out information about youth tournaments that are brought to my attention (both AAU and USA) as I learn about them. Most will include travel, at this point, but it is important to understand what is out there. I envision our club becoming part of some of the youth southern tournament series in the next couple of years to bring some additional competition and talent into the area. It takes time to get to that level, but we are getting there.
The club has a membership to flowrestling.org and makes the credentials available to all current TBWC members to login, read and watch youth, high school and college wrestling from across the country and around the globe. If you are a current member and wish to check it out, please reach out to me direct.
Once again, thank you for your continued support and please spread the word. If there is anything you need from me or the club, please reach out at any time. Thanks again to all of the coaches and families that continue to support our effort.
I do believe we are making a difference.
