Greetings, wrestling fans!

We are now approaching the highly anticipated wrestling post season tournaments, both High School and College. If you consider that March Madness is also just around the corner, I think this ends up being my favorite time of the year.
Below you’ll find information on the current and next TBWC session schedule, post season tournaments, gear and some miscellaneous info.
Schedule
This Sunday will be practice #6 of the 6th session. We continue to gain momentum and are filling the wrestling room, which is a good problem to have. I’ve updated the schedule on the website for this session to properly reflect the location of our practices for the remainder of the session. Starting NEXT WEEK (2/28/2016) we will move over to the Chiles Cafeteria. I will post signs on the doors of the school entrance where the wrestling room is directing people to the cafeteria. For those who may not be familiar, to get to the cafeteria, you’ll just continue to drive down the bus ramp, past the normal wrestling room entrance, toward the soccer/lacrosse fields and turn right. The entrance to the cafeteria is immediately on the right hand side just after you turn.
While the move is a challenge for us organizationally, it comes at a good time. In the cafeteria, we’re able to spread out a bit and add a couple of additional mats, giving the guys more room to move. It also give us enough room to keep from having to sit guys during the practice. Safety is of great importance and, though I want to push each and every athlete for the entire 60 minutes of the practice, I have to make some decisions that help keep our guys safe, to include rotating groups in, limiting match-ups, etc. So, please make a note of the move and know that it’s a good thing for us right now.
There are 5 more practices of this session. Because I’m a fanatic, I won’t be at two of the last 5 practices and will be relying on some of the other coaches to fill in for me. The dates and reasons I’ll be out are as follows:
Practice 8 – 3/6/2016 – I’ll be in Iowa watching the Big Ten Wrestling Tournament at Carver Hawkeye Arena (Go Buckeyes!)
Practice 10 – 3/20/2016 – I’ll be in New York City watching the NCAA wrestling tournament at Madison Square Gardens
I intend to keep our string of practices going without cancelling and thank the guys who help make this happen. If, by some chance, something happens that prevents my backups from running the practice, I’ll send out an email notifying you of the same.
After our last practice on the 20th of March, we’ll take our normal 3 weeks off and then start up again on April 17th @ 3PM with Session 7 in the Chiles cafeteria. I’ll post the schedule to the website soon here (tlhbwc.com/schedule).
Post Season
Our local high school wrestlers will be competing in the post season tournaments, all aiming high for individual state championships. This weekend is the first in a series of two qualifiers – the District tournament, which starts at 3PM on Friday night (2/19). It will be a short, one day tournament that will wrap up Friday night. Following that will be the second qualifier, the Regional tournament, which will be Friday 2/26 (12PM) – Saturday 2/27 (10am).
Both events will be at Chiles High School.
***NOTE***
Any TBWC club athlete that has ever been on the club roster will get free admission to these post season events. TBWC is happy to pay the admission fee for club members (athletes only – family members not included) and gate keepers will have a roster handy so please check in upon entry and mention that you are a TBWC club athlete.
Please take advantage of this opportunity and come out in support of our local wrestlers.

Gear
The second round of custom TBWC gear has been ordered and is expected inside of two weeks (fingers crossed). I ordered a few extra items in addition to what was specifically ordered by individuals. I’ll send out an email with what is available once it arrives. Payment will be expected when gear is delivered.
In a couple of weeks, I’ll also be ordering some additional performance practice t-shirts, for those who are interested (the blue performance TBWC t-shirts with gray writing). More on that when we get closer.
I have a few Cinch Sacks, Backpacks and shirts available – let me know if you are interested.
Misc
We continue to get new guys coming in to check out the club each week. I could not be more pleased with our development – both as athletes and as a program.
It’s incredibly rewarding to see some of these guys grow as young men and develop as driven young warriors. It is important to note that, while wrestling is an extremely physical sport, we impress upon these young men that sportsmanship and respect are tremendously important. I hope to develop successful athletes that grow, compete and push themselves beyond what they believe they can accomplish; however, I also intend to do my part to help build kind, respectful and responsible young men.
Please continue to spread the word. As I’ve mentioned many times in the past, the more athletes we have in the program, the better I’m able to match up your wrestler with partners that challenge them and match as closely as is possible physically to resemble what they would see in competition.
As a reminder, if you are inviting a friend to come check out the club, there is no commitment for the first practice. They only requirement is to complete the release form, which can be downloaded here.
